Prohibited, Restricted and Danger Areas

1. General

1.1 All airspace within which the operation of civil aircraft may, for one reason or another be restricted - either temporarily or permanently - and all airspace in which a potential hazard to aircraft operations exist are classified according to the following three types of areas as defined by ICAO.

1.2 Prohibited area (P)

An airspace of defined dimensions, above the land areas or territorial waters of a State, within which the flight of aircraft is prohibited.

1.3 Restricted area (R)

An airspace of defined dimensions, above the land areas or territorial waters of a State, within which the flight of aircraft is restricted in accordance with certain specified conditions.

1.4 Danger area (D)

An airspace of defined dimensions within which activities dangerous to the flight of aircraft may exist at specified times.

2. Area description

2.1 Designation

Each area is given a designation composed by the nationality letters "EK" followed by a letter indicating the type of the area and a number. A geographical name may be used in connection with the designation, e.g., EK R12 Gniben, EK D370 Blokhus.

2.2 Lateral limits

The lateral limits are normally defined by geometrical figures/lines, although geographical features such as coastlines are used as well.

2.3 Vertical limits

The upper limit is given in FT MSL or FL. The lower limit is usually

GND, but may be given in FT MSL or FL.

2.4 For details, see the individual area description on the following pages.

Note! For the D-areas specially applies that fixed periods and fixed maximum heights are established within which activities may be expected to take place.

3. Flight within R- and D-areas

3.1 Flight within R-areas

Flight within Restricted Areas may take place only after prior permission has been obtained from K0benhavn ACC of from the ATS unit mentioned for the individual area. When flying in an area, two-way radio communication shall be maintained with the appropriate ATS-unit. Military aircraft not under control by a civil ATC unit will adhere to regulations submitted by Tactical Air Command.

3.2 Flight within D-areas

Before beginning a flight, which may involve entry into a D-area, the pilot-in-command of an aircraft shall obtain information as to whether activities dangerous to the flight of aircraft are taking place within the area. If such activities are taking place entry into the area should be avoided.

Information about the period and height within which activities actually take place may be obtained from 1100 (1000) the day before the activity at the following places/services:

ACC K0benhavn (CS Copenhagen Control), FIS K0benhavn (CS Copenhagen Information), and the briefing offices at the following airports/aerodromes:

For IFR-traffic, an ATC-clearance necessitating entry of a R- or D-ar-ea will ensure such flight to be accomplished without hindrance.

4. Information about activities outside published D- and R-Areas

4.1 General

In accordance with military regulations it is the responsibility of the unit concerned, that the safety of aviation is not infringed. For military activities, firing exercises inclusive, where the safety height is 500 FT GND or less, publication will not take place.

4.2 Activities outside Control Zones (CTR)/Traffic Information Zones (TIZ)

The following military activities are carried out even if the safety height of 500 FT GND is exceeded, since a watch out of the airspace is performed from the firing range:

• firing against ground targets with small fire arms using ammunition of less than 10 mm calibre,

• throwing of hand grenades,

• use of signal cartridges and signal rockets.

4.3 Activities within Control Zones (CTR)/Traffic Information

Zones (TIZ)

Regardless of the activity taking place within a CTR/TIZ, the safety height of 500 FT GND will be complied with, even if a watch out is established.

Firing exercises having a safety height of more than 500 FT GND will take place only after permission from the ATS unit concerned.

5 Conditional Routes (CDR)

5.1 Conditional Routes (CDR) are designed to complement the permanent ATS-route network and to allow flights to be planned on ATS-routes, or portions thereof, that are not always available. CDR are generally established through areas of potential temporary allocation for other purpose identified under the generic term "AMC-Man-ageable Areas" (TSA, TRA and Manageable Restricted/Danger Areas).

CDR's are divided into three different categories according to their foreseen availability, their flight planning potential and the anticipated level of activity of the associated AMC Manageable Area(s). CDR can be established in one or more of the three categories:

5.1 CDR 1:

Permanently Planable CDR during the times published in the AIP. CDR 1 may be flight planned in the same way as permanent ATS-routes during the published time period. Any foreseen unavailability of CDR 1 will, when practicable be properly notified. In case of activation of the area with short notice, ATC instructions will be issued.

5.2 CDR 2:

Non-Permanently Planable CDR. CDR 2 are part of pre-defined routing scenarios, which respond to specific capacity imbalances. Flights may only be planned on CDR 2 in accordance with conditions published daily (CRAM).

5.3 CDR 3:

Not Planable CDR. CDR 3 are published in AIP as CDR usable on ATC instruction only. Flights will be re-routed on CDR 3 on ATC instruction as short notice routing proposal.
