Requesting a display by the Red Arrows
Anyone can request a display by the Red Arrows. The Team does not choose where and when they are to display themselves. Display allocation is controlled by the Royal Air Force Events Team. That is written at Royal Air Force web page www.raf.mod.uk.
The Royal Air Force Events Team receive more than 300 requests for displays by the Red Arrows each year, but only about 80 can be fitted into the team's summer programme.
The Team complete many flypasts each summer as they transit from display to display. The Red Arrows’ display season generally begins in May and finishes in September each year, and the Team is unable to perform flypasts outside this period. Flypasts, with very rare exceptions, are permitted only when the Red Arrows are already in transit close to where the flypast is required. They are not programmed to do flypasts that involve a considerable deviation from the planned route because this would incur extra fuel and aircraft operating costs.
The Team is not permitted to carry out flypasts for weddings, funerals or birthdays. Flypasts are always subject to cancellation at short notice for operational reasons such as weather conditions and Air Traffic Control restrictions.
The Red Arrows will publish display timings and the Team's ground appearances on the news pages of www.raf.mod.uk website as they are updated during the display season.
Since the Team’s creation in 1965, the Red Arrows have flown over 4,000 displays in 52 countries. Today the Red Arrows are renowned throughout the world, acting as ambassadors for Great Britain when displaying overseas. They also support UK industry by demonstrating the capabilities of British equipment and expertise.
